A New Soup Kitchen for Siyaphambili through Global Giving April Challenge

Food preparation is not easy for 100!

Food preparation is not easy for 100!

Problem: the current kitchen at Siyaphambili AIDS Orphan Village is broken, worn out, cramped, unsafe and can make meals for so many only by the sheer will and hard, too hard, work of the staff and volunteers!

Solution: Post a Project on the Global Giving website to build a new, large, fully functional soup kitchen at Siyaphambili to enable the volunteers and staff to safely and more efficiently store food, cook and serve meals, and clean up all without bumping into each other or worrying about open flames.  As of April 1, 2013, for one month, we will be asking the world to make donations so that we can build and equip the new, so badly needed, soup kitchen for all at the Village and others in Langa on a daily basis.  Please check out the project

Global Giving Challenge during April, 2013 – New Kitchen!

Siyaphambili is excited to announce that we have qualified as an organization to post a project on the Global Giving international website platform for the month of April as a challenge to raise the money we need to build a new soup kitchen for not only all at Siyaphambili AIDS Orphan Village, but the hungry, vulnerable children, teens and adults around us and connected to us through our outreach programs.  We need to raise 850,000 Rand [or US$8,500] during the month of April to earn a permanent place on the Global Giving platform for ongoing fundraising and exposure to corporate giving, matching donations, mobile giving and other benefits.  Please see our project by clicking on the link on our Donate page and thanks!

Human Rights Day, 21 March 2013

Ouma addressing the attendees

Ouma addressing the attendees

Today the whole village at Siyaphambili AIDS Orphanage celebrated Human Rights Day with presentations, song and dance, work groups, discussion groups, awareness sessions that included members of Langa’s churches, government agencies, media, representatives from the Swedish NGO SOFIA, and the neighborhood as well as all the outreach groups that Siyaphambili serves – the teen mothers, the child headed households, the grannies [Oumas] raising grandchildren, afterschool and creche children.

It was a great success and all had a wonderful lunch prepared in the cramped kitchen – a small miracle in itself!

day to day challenges. We will post all of the pictures on colourful
borders and place them around the home of Siyaphambili, others will
be framed and sold to visitors who might want to keep them as

World AIDS Day 2012 at Siyaphambili

Guest and Volunteer

Red Ribbons for all

On December 1, 2012, Siyaphambili AIDS Orphan Village celebrated not only the lives of those present and ALIVE, but the memories of the many of our community whom we have lost to AIDS, including one or more parent of most of the children in the village.

But Siyaphambili also celebrated Mandla’s 50th Birthday on 1 December 2012!  He and Ndileka decided it would be a good occasion to bring joy into what could have been a sad day.    Instead, there was much joy, music, singing and dancing, toasts, food and drink for all the 100+ attendees and the celebration went into the night.     It was a wonderful party for young and old.
