Nelson Mandela Day not only celebrates Nelson Mandela’s life, but it is also a global call to action for people to recognize their ability to have a positive effect on others around them. The day hopes to inspire people to embrace the values that Mandela shared. These values include democracy, freedom, equality, diversity, reconciliation, and respect.
This year will be the first time South Africans and global citizens will celebrate Mandela Day without former President Nelson Mandela. In honour of his legacy and memory we invite all active citizens to join us in celebration of his legacy with the Siyaphambili Orphan Village. Many people and organizations around the world take part in many activities to promote Nelson Mandela Day. These activities include volunteering, sport, art, education, music and culture.
In the spirit of Ubuntu which is a key value Mandela cherished , we invite all citizens to join Siyaphambili in honouring Nelson Mandela legacy by spending their 67mins of Active Citizenry and volunteering with our youths.
This coming 18th July 2014 , UCT students will be spending the day interacting and engaging with Siyaphambili Orphan children. We welcome all active citizens who would like to spend their 67mins of volunteering through sports, art , education , music and culture.
